RUTAS EN BICICLETA
Bogotá, diverse and multicultural, is simply the union of all the best that the country has to offer. It is an endless place to explore, where modern buildings blend with those that evoke its past. Bogotá is green thanks to its parks and the Eastern Hills, part of the Andes mountain range, where the Monserrate and Guadalupe sanctuaries rise.
Points of Interest
Bogotá, officially Bogotá, Distrito Capital, abbreviated Bogotá, D. C. (During the Spanish colonial era and from 1991 to 2000, it was once again called Santafé de Bogotá), is the capital of the Republic of Colombia and the department of Cundinamarca. It is composed of 20 localities and serves as the political, economic, administrative, industrial, artistic, cultural, sporting, and tourist epicenter of the country.
Bogotá was founded as the capital of the New Kingdom of Granada on August 6, 1538, by the Spanish conquistador Gonzalo Jiménez de Quesada.
It is the third-highest capital in South America, sitting at an average of 2,625 meters above sea level. It is located in the center of Colombia, in the natural region known as the Bogotá savanna, which is part of the Cundiboyacense Plateau, situated in the Eastern Andes mountain range.
It spans 33 km from south to north and 16 km from east to west. Due to its great altitude, Bogotá has a cool mountain climate; its low latitude results in minimal temperature variation throughout the year. Temperatures typically range from 6 to 22 °C, with an annual average of 14 °C.
The city’s airport, El Dorado International Airport, handles the largest volume of cargo transported in Latin America and is the second in terms of passenger traffic. It is the city in Colombia with the most universities (114) and research centers. Bogotá offers a rich cultural scene, with numerous museums, theaters, and libraries, earning it the title of the “South American Athens.”
